Vision for Youth is a Tanzanian NGO that provides life skills and entrepreneurship training to youth. After staging its training programs, it aims to put training into practice by offering job opportunities in one of its social enterprises:
Bright Energy Africa (BEA) converts agricultural waste into biomass charcoal fuel and distributes it as cooking briquettes. Youth beco
me the principal agents of change, selling the briquettes back to their communities, earning commissions and helping to avoid the wood cycle. B
EA’s innovative model consists of (1) leasing kilns to local farmers to make biomass char, (2) buying that char back from the
farmers at a higher rate than the kiln lease, and (3) employing farmers to run briquette fabricators in central locations, further creating jobs.
Youth Feed the Nation trains in agricultural and agri-business practices and then offers soft loans as an opportunity for youth to launch their own businesses.
Aktivera has been working with V4Y on:
- Creating a business plan
- Operational planning, incl. budgeting, hiring staff, introducing objective setting and performance reviews
- Provided senior management and staff training.
Aktivera also supported the creation of the agricultural loan fund for youth.
